I've Made A Mistake

I've made a mistake in buying the Kate Somerville moisturizer - not because I hate it, but because I LOVE it. Here is how the purchase happened...

Lauren Conrad runs a beauty website called the Beauty Department. I happened to be browsing the website and Lauren posted her skincare favorites -  all of the products she mentioned were Kate Somerville. I had heard of the brand before but never tried it out. Now I was a huge Laguna Beach and Hills fan back in the day and loved Lauren - so I had to try it out.  It has been love ever since. I personally am a fan of the moisturizers and her Exfolikate (not picutred). But today I just want to talk about the moisturizers.

I have acne prone, oily, dehydrated and sensitive skin. Fun right? NOT. My skin struggles...and so in the summer I use the Oil Free Moisturizer to keep the oiliness at bay. For winter I switch over to the Nourish Daily Moisturizer to give me some extra hydration and protect my skin against the frigid winter weather. At $65 a bottle it is pricey and that's why it's a mistake. But after I put this on my skin, I NEVER regret it - it's worth the price. I feel like good moisturizer is a good investment especially if your skin sucks like mine.

winter skincare

winter skincare

winter skincare by everydaygandb featuring a face moisturizer

I don't know if we have regular readers now, but I am sorry I have neglected the blog for so long. I am finishing up my last semester of school (hopefully I never have to go back). I have been so busy I haven't had time to blog or think about blogging. But that doesn't mean I haven't thought about all the things I have tried or want to write about.

Winter has hit here in my home state and I have forgotten how actually frigid cold it can be. When the weather turns my skin becomes so dehydrated and dry despite it how oily it actually is.

Just to give a little background on my skin - it sucks. I have oily, acne-prone skin and have suffered from skin problems for years. Yet despite the oiliness my skin gets very dry and dehydrated in the winter time. I get flakes of dry skin on my forehead and nose. My skin is also sensitive and doesn't like harsh chemicals.

Because of this in the winter I switch over to a gentler cleanser, one of my favorites is the philosophy purity cleanser. It cleans the skin so well and isn't drying.  They have a gel version but I prefer the original.

I also love a moisturizer that is hydrating without being too thick. The Estee Lauder Day Wear is a nice balance and I love the fresh cucumber smell!

Lastly, chapstick! Any kind will do! I have always been a fan of Burts Bees natural and the stuff works.

Comment and let me know your winter skincare favorites!

The Secret Is Out!

My best friend let me in on an amazing secret the other day. Coconut oil as a skin care regimen. Can you believe it? I know coconut oil is a healthier option for cooking but when I heard about using it on my skin - I was intrigued. I heard of people using it on their hair as a leave in conditioner and on their hands but never ever for the face. I thought it could possibly leave your skin feeling ever so greasy. But I decided to research it and after doing so, I purchased this pretty little jar from my local grocery store.

Coconut oil contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, pretty amazing right? Who doesn't want that in their skin care? It is high in vitamin E and is extremely moisturizing. The fatty acids in the oil can strengthen the skin's barrier to lock in moisture. I suggest you go with an organic option so you can rest assured that it doesn't contain any pesticides or other toxins.

There are so many ways you can use this product in your skin care routine. You can cleanse your face with this product - it is great for removing makeup. You can use it to create a homemade exfoliant by melting the product and adding salt or sugar and vanilla or an essential oil for smell. You can use it as a moisturizer just by rubbing it into your skin.

After one try I was kind of hooked. My under eyes get super dry. I used my facial cleanser and then I took a small amount and rubbed it under my eyes. Instantly my under eye area felt moisturized. Obviously you can't use too much product because your skin can only absorb so much. But I am obsessed. I also love the fact that I know there are no harsh chemicals on my skin, especially when it comes to my face. Not to mention this jar was only $7.99. I have also tried it as moisturizer and my skin felt so incredibly soft.

Try it out and let me know what you think!

I LOVE FREE PEOPLE. That beings said- I can't afford it, nor do I have the body for it. But that doesn't mean I can't lust after their clothing.

I'm not sure what it is about this brand but they just get me. I love the mix of feminine and masculine. You will find a billowy dress paired with a moto style jacket and it's just perfection.

Their fall catalog arrived at my house the other day and I was head over heals for all the clothing and the models hair. How do they get their models hair SO PERFECT? The video below shows the models hair I am speaking of. I love the mix of braids with the beach waves.

Even if you are like me and can't afford or even wear Free People, you can use it as inspiration to find other pieces in your price range.

Own that ish!

Inner beauty. People are sheepish when it comes to this topic. But i feel like it is super important. There are so many angles that you can approach inner beauty. But I have had one thing on my mind when it comes to this topic.

I've had a lot thrown at me in the last while that tells me i'm not good enough. I think a lot of people feel this way. Don't believe whatever is being thrown at you. If you're always telling yourself that you aren't good enough - then that will become your frame of mind. You will live your life bowing down to something that is not true AT ALL.

I want you to take a moment and think about 5 things you are amazing at. DO IT. NOW. I know you are thinking this is stupid... but do it. Really think about your talents and how they help others. Don't think about someone who is better at them, or something that has made you feel insecure about them. Just think about you and how you feel about that strength that you have. Own it. Be brave. Be confident. People will always have their opinions but guess what? You have an opinion too. Guess what else? Yours is the one that matters most. If you own your strengths people will have no other choice but to believe you are the best.

Feel that? That's called confidence. You need that to survive - to show others you have a lot to offer.

Be supportive of yourself. Love yourself even when its hard. You are your number one fan so only you can set the tone for your inner self. Your soul and mind need you. Don't let them down. Don't let me down. I'm rooting for all of our readers.

Sorry not sorry that this post is on the deeper side of things. Thank you so much for reading.

Red Lip July

We are feeling patriotic today as we celebrate our great nation.  We decided to put a makeup look together that is casual and festive.

This can be worn to any summer party and BBQ and isn't pricey at all!

We paired this toned-down red lip with a soft brown eyeshadow and a little black liner. We also added bronzer for a sunkissed glow.

The red lip is the star of the show and is the Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in #240 Striking Spectaculaire. Isn't it gorgeous? And totally affordable.

Try it out and let us know what you think!

Happy Summer Season!
